Harmony - introduction.
Enjoy this FREE introduction to the Major scale! Note that this is a beginner level lesson and the starting point for harmonic knowledge. Lessons begin from here and cover everything through to advanced level content. - this is just an example of how it looks and feels.
The next few lessons in our harmony module introduce minor ii V I’s, secondary dominants, back door ii V I’s and tritone substitutions.
Aural Skills - Interval Test.
Learning aural skills is a critical aspect of learning to improvise and play jazz music. We have a wide range of lessons and exercises to help you improve the connection between your ear, your voice and your instrument.
Take one of our aural tests below and see how you get on:
Concepts Of Improvisation - Play - Rest - Rest.
In Concepts of Improvisation we focus on our approach to improvisation. This can include melodic games (like the example below), looking at a famous players approach, or adding in some specific era-based harmonic concepts, such as chromatic approach in be-bop.
Repertoire - Recordame.
We encourage all of our students to try and learn in the aural tradition. The repertoire uploaded breaks the chord sequence down into an easily understandable and very memorable Roman numeral system that allows for fast recall and transposition. We also offer the chord/scale relationships for those newer to harmony.
Check out Joe Henderson’s Latin tune Recordame for an example:
